“One Term and Then What?” Jimi Wanjigi Breaks Silence

Businessman and political figure Jimi Wanjigi has sparked debate after questioning the growing “one term” political slogan being directed at President William Ruto.

Speaking during a public discussion, Wanjigi argued that removing a leader without presenting a clear plan for the future would not solve the country’s problems.

“I am not for two term, give me a break. Why would I be for two term? One term then what? The issue is then what?” he said.

Wanjigi compared the current political climate to the period before the 2002 elections, when many Kenyans were united under the slogan “Moi must go” against former President Daniel arap Moi.

However, he noted that former President Mwai Kibaki succeeded because his movement had a clear vision for the country beyond removing the sitting government.

“In 2002, we had a moment similar to what we are going through. Kibaki had a then what, and there were two anchors to his campaign: free primary education and a new constitution,” Wanjigi stated.

He challenged opposition leaders and Kenyans pushing the “one term” narrative to explain how life would improve for ordinary citizens after a leadership change.

“When you say one term, then what? Tell me what you hear after that. After William Ruto goes, how will people’s lives change?” he posed.

His remarks have since generated widespread reactions online, with supporters saying the country needs issue based politics, while critics insisted that accountability and governance concerns remain central to the national conversation.
