CX5 Burned During Fuel Protests as Kenyans Condemn Use of Private Vehicles,"Magari Ibaki Nyumbani Ama Ichomwe",One Kenyan Said

A wave of anger and frustration spread online on Monday after a Mazda CX5 was reportedly set on fire in Githurai during the ongoing nationwide fuel protests and matatu strike that disrupted transport across several parts of Kenya.

The incident happened amid chaotic demonstrations witnessed in Githurai and nearby areas, where protesters blocked roads, burned tires, and clashed with police over the sharp rise in fuel prices announced last week.

Photos and videos circulating online showed the badly damaged vehicle engulfed in flames as shocked residents watched from a distance. Reports indicated that the car allegedly had a UDA sticker attached to it, something that quickly fueled heated reactions online as debate intensified over politics and the ongoing protests.

The destruction sparked mixed reactions from Kenyans, with many condemning the burning of private property despite agreeing with frustrations over the high cost of fuel.

“We are all complaining about fuel, but kwa hii CX5 hamjafanya poa. Burning the vehicle doesn’t solve anything at all but distress to the owner,” some social media users reacted.

The nationwide strike left thousands of commuters stranded after matatus withdrew services while protesters barricaded roads using stones and burning tires. Several businesses also remained closed as tension continued to build across major towns.

Authorities have increased police deployment in affected areas as efforts continue to restore calm and reopen roads blocked by demonstrators.

The incident has renewed debate online over the growing violence witnessed during protests, with many Kenyans urging demonstrators to avoid destroying private property belonging to ordinary citizens already struggling with the rising cost of living.
