Suspected Member of Violent Robbery Syndicate Arrested in Kasarani Operation

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a man believed to be part of an organized criminal network linked to a series of violent robberies targeting traders across Kajiado, Kiambu, and Nairobi counties.

The suspect, identified by police as Paul Irungu Mwangi, was apprehended in the Sonic area of Kasarani Sub-County after what investigators described as days of coordinated intelligence gathering and surveillance. Authorities allege that he is a close associate of Peter Muhia Njenga, who has been described by investigators as a key figure in a broader criminal syndicate under investigation for robbery with violence and related offenses.

According to detectives, the group is suspected of orchestrating a string of attacks that have caused significant concern among wines and spirits traders operating in parts of the three counties. Several business owners had reported being targeted in incidents involving armed confrontations, theft of goods and cash, and in some cases, serious injuries.

Intelligence-Led Operation

Law enforcement officials stated that Mwangi had gone into hiding following the arrest of several suspected associates last week. Acting on intelligence leads, officers tracked him to a residential location in Kasarani, where he was taken into custody without incident.

The arrest marks what investigators describe as a critical step in dismantling the alleged network. Authorities maintain that the operation remains ongoing, with additional suspects still at large.

Police sources indicate that the broader investigation has involved collaboration between officers at DCI Headquarters and regional units in the affected counties. Detectives have been analyzing communication records, financial transactions, and witness statements as part of efforts to map out the structure and operations of the alleged syndicate.

In addition to robbery with violence, investigators say the suspect and his alleged accomplices are being examined in connection with reported kidnapping incidents in the region.
