Notorious Killer-Turned-Armed Robber Arrested in Major Security Operation in Meru

A multi-agency security operation has led to the arrest of Jason Kobia Mucoka, a 47-year-old ex-convict accused of orchestrating a string of violent robberies across parts of Igembe in Meru County. Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), working jointly with officers from the Kenya Police Service (KPS) and the Administration Police Service (APS), apprehended the suspect following intelligence-led surveillance.

Authorities describe the arrest as a significant breakthrough in efforts to restore calm in Mutuati, Laare, Maua, and surrounding areas that had recently experienced rising insecurity.

A Troubling Criminal PastAccording to investigators, Mucoka had previously served a 15-year prison sentence for the murder of his brother. After completing his term and regaining freedom, police say he returned to criminal activities instead of reintegrating into society.

Security officials allege that shortly after his release, the suspect began mobilizing individuals into organized criminal groups operating within the Kabachi area. Residents had reportedly expressed growing fear over threats and violent robberies linked to the gang.
